Estés tells stories of Bluebeard, La Llorona, the Red Shoes and she often speaks of the Mage-- "a psychic force that twists and tangles us up as though by magic, keeping us from knowing what we know." For me, wild woman archetype images emerge from our local landscape and in stories from my life. I have felt the spirit of La Llorona up Fry Creek Canyon on every visit. I have felt the natural predator within me preying upon my own well-being. The madness of obsession that comes with unbearable grief can be found laced through my own hard times. My battle with the mage is ever ongoing and takes many forms.
